Sueve: Discover the Enchanted Beechwood

The Sueve mountain range is one of Asturias’ hidden natural treasures. This relaxing family hike takes you through an enchanted beech forest where ancient trees, moss-covered yews and spectacular viewpoints create one of the most magical landscapes in northern Spain.

Almost the entire route is downhill, making it ideal for families with children and anyone looking for an enjoyable mountain walk without technical difficulty. The Sueve Protected Landscape combines forests, mountain meadows and breathtaking views of both the Picos de Europa and the Cantabrian Sea.

A Unique Landscape Between Mountains and the Sea

Very few places in Europe offer such an extraordinary contrast. At more than 1,100 metres above sea level and only a few kilometres from the coast, the Sueve mountain range allows visitors to admire the highest peaks of the Picos de Europa while also enjoying panoramic views over the Cantabrian Sea.

Along the route you will walk through magnificent beech woods, discover giant ferns, ancient yew trees covered in moss and peaceful mountain meadows where the famous Asturcón horses graze freely.

    Home of the Asturcón Horse

The Sierra del Sueve is internationally known as the home of the Asturcón, an ancient native breed of semi-wild horse that has lived in these mountains for centuries. Observing these beautiful animals in their natural environment is one of the highlights of the hike and a unique experience for visitors of all ages.

Our local guides explain the history of the Asturcón, the flora and fauna of the protected landscape and the ecological importance of conserving this exceptional natural area.

Why Visit the Sueve Mountain Range?

The Sueve hike combines nature, spectacular scenery and complete tranquillity. It is the perfect activity for families, photographers and nature lovers looking to discover one of Asturias’ least-known but most beautiful landscapes.
